Tutorials, links, and ideas for making clothes and accessories for babies and small children - and a few other bits!
Welcome to my Blog
I am a grandmother to 4 little girls. I blog about the things I make for them, review patterns, provide tutorials on how I've dealt with techniques or problems, which I hope may help others, and give links to the (mostly) free patterns I use. Every so often, I do a 'Best of..' post listing the best free patterns I've found under specific headings - babies, girls, boys etc. Enjoy the Blog!

Easy summer skirts for little girls Part 2
Having made a few skirts already this summer, (see this post) I found a pattern / tutorial new to me, and I wanted to give it a try. I liked it so much, I made three! Only two have been given an outing so far the other is en route, but the two that have been around for longer seem to have been popular. And they were very quick and easy to make.
You can find out more about This Mama Makes Stuff Twirly Whirly Skirt if you read on. It doesn't have to sit as low on the hips as this, but my grand-daughters are all slim, and like their skirt on their hips rather than tight round the waist. You could make a ra-ra skirt for a baby, or a full length adult skirt.

Quiet book page for superheroes
Far and away the most popular of my quiet book pages for my grand-daughters has been my superheroes page. It basically consists of a bag, containing 10 superhero puppets. That really has been the 'go to' page for all of the three older ones. And unlike some of the other pages, they ask for this one again and again.

Mini quilts for dolls houses - a tutorial
One of my other hobbies has been making things for dolls houses. Now one of my grand-daughters likes to play with some of the (sturdier) pieces, I'm aware that there is a shortage of bedding. I found some of the old bedding recently, and although cute (I made it when I was 9) it is distinctly moth-eaten and age-stained. Jane loves her own quilt, which I made her a few years ago. So I thought I'd make a quick quilt or two for the dolls house.
Making a quilt in 1/12th scale could be very fiddly (especially if you aim for perfection). I wanted to make something very quickly before Jane tired of the dolls, so I came up with a quick way.

Summer skirts for little girls Part 1
Skirts are a godsend for summer, especally as one of my grand-daughters pretty much refuses to wear dresses at all. She will just about be persuaded into a skirt, though her preference by far is to wear shorts all the time. This summer, I made several new skirts, not only for her, but for all of them including the baby.
These are the first 4, completed at the same time. You can find out more about how to make skirts like these, by reading on.

New beach cover-ups
Two years ago, I made the three older girls beach cover-ups, poncho style. For the detailed methods of making these, you can read about them here and here. These are all now outgrown. (Maybe one or more might work for the new baby next year.) So, three more needed before our family holiday.
Here are examples of what I ended up with.
