Welcome to my Blog

I am a grandmother to 4 little girls. I blog about the things I make for them, review patterns, provide tutorials on how I've dealt with techniques or problems, which I hope may help others, and give links to the (mostly) free patterns I use. Every so often, I do a 'Best of..' post listing the best free patterns I've found under specific headings - babies, girls, boys etc. Enjoy the Blog!

Free PDFpatterns for newborns - Page 2

You are on the second page of my post about free PDF patterns for newborns. If you missed Page 1, you might want to return there first.

But if you've read Page 1, then off you go  - read on. As before, larger pictures on this page are my own, from things I have made for my grandchildren. The smaller pictures are from the pattern designers' web sites.

Clothes with legs

There were lots of dresses in Page 1 of this post, as well as onesies and T shirts. Now, how about some clothes with legs? (I won't call them boys clothes, as they are just as suitable for girls!)

I've already referred you in Page 1 to Baby Patterns At Space, which also has some great pants and romper patterns for 0-3 months. But there are others.

Here are some nice trousers (pants) that include a 0-3 months size, from Make Baby Stuff. There are other free sizes too. And clear instructions.

And some more simple basic pants (trousers) for a newborn from Made by Rae. This will link to her free PDF pattern. She has very clear instructions. You could make them a bit longer and they would probably fit an older baby too. The picture is from Rae's web site.

The same pattern designer, Made by Rae, also has a pattern for knit leggings, for 0-3 months, called Just Hatched Baby Leggings. I don't like these quite as much, as they are the same back and front (babies are NOT the same back and front, are they?) but made in a knit fabric, it doesn't matter so much, and you may like the simplicity of this design.

For an alternative leggings pattern, you could look at Andrea's Notebook. The smallest of her 3 free sizes is 3-6 months, but you could make them shorter. These fitted Ada from birth.

The Andrea's Notebook web site doesn't seem to be working at the moment, but I have a downloaded copy of the pattern in 3-6 and 6-9 months if you want to contact me. Larger sizes (12 months plus) are available for a payment on the Go To web site.

Almost all the indie pattern designers have a free leggings patterns nowadays, so it's just a question of deciding which of them you want to subcribe to (or sign up via Facebook).

This next free pattern, oh, I so wanted to make it! These are dungarees from Shwin and Shwin. Perhaps it's just the colour combinations that I so like, but I think these dungarees are really cute. Sadly, as they only come free in 0-3 months, all my grand-babies had grown too big by the time I got round to it. But they do look lovely.

Now for my absolute go-to free PDF pattern, one of my favourites, used again and again, from Made by Dana - this is a diaper or nappy cover, which I've also used to make knickers, or what we in the UK call pants, or in the US, underpants. (Only boys wear underpants in the UK.) These are just two of the many versions I've made. This pattern comes in several sizes, only the smaller pink pair below were in 0-3 months, but I LOVE this pattern - thank you, Dana.

I've also used it to make simple rompers, by just extending the top edge up by about 4-5" (c 12cm) and adding some straps. These were also in newborn size but I had to extend the straps for Ada, who was over 8lbs when newborn. None of my newborn clothes really worked for her - or not for long!

Free woven or knit baby romper (with a ruffled version) - I love this from Life Sew Savory. Unfortunately I found it too late for my granddaughters, they are all beyond the baby romper stage now. But if I had found it earlier, I would have made loads! Very cute!

And a few others to try:

Brindille Twigs 'Bummies' - I don't like the rude sounding name, maybe it's much worse in English English than in US English. I would have got a good smack using a word like that as a child. But these pants / shorts look cute.

Winter baby? Chilly toes? These trousers with feet from Sew Much Ado would do the trick.

A more elaborate sunsuit than the ones I've made from Dana's Diaper Cover pattern above, this pattern from DIY Crush comes in sizes 3 months up to age 6.

Finally, these little shorts from Crafting Zuzzy have a free PDF said to fit 3 months.

Hats

I've done a whole separate blog on baby hats, so if you don't find what you want below, try this post. However, I've linked to a few of my favourites here.

Purl Soho have this cute winter bonnet from size 0-3 months up to 18-24 months. I haven't made it in the smallest size, but you can see my version in a slightly bigger size in the hats post.

See Kate Sew has a knotted baby hat in 0-2/3 months. The free PDF pattern and instructions are given on a post about Dockatot. Let me make it clear that I do not personally endorse Dockatot, although the hat pattern looks fine and is free. You'll find other knotted hat ideas on my Hats blog, including my own pattern for a premature baby hat.

For a cute, simple cap in multiple sizes from premature up, you probably can't do better than Coral and Co.

Zaaberry have a nice trio of free PDF hat patterns, including a knotted one, one with ears, and a plain rounded one with a brim.

And a final simple knit hat (and a receiving blanket) come from Make It Love It.

I'll continue with some more free PDF patterns for newborns on Page 3.
