Welcome to my Blog

I am a grandmother to 4 little girls. I blog about the things I make for them, review patterns, provide tutorials on how I've dealt with techniques or problems, which I hope may help others, and give links to the (mostly) free patterns I use. Every so often, I do a 'Best of..' post listing the best free patterns I've found under specific headings - babies, girls, boys etc. Enjoy the Blog!

How happy I am when the clothes get worn!

How I love it when the clothes I make for my grand-children are worn from choice! Of course, when they are young, they don't get much choice over what they will wear, but as they get older, they are particular. For instance, one of my grand-daughters from 2 to 5 refused to wear a dress,  whereas one of her cousins refused at the same age to wear anything BUT a dress.

So if they don't like something I've made - they won't wear it! And I'm delighted when I see them choosing Grandma's clothes. Here are Fleur, then 4, and Rose, 3. They are visiting their other grandpa thousands of miles from home. Fleur is in her newest Grandma-made shorts, and Rose has stolen Fleur's from last year, because she's always loved them and now they fit her.

More of my favourite pictures of the girls in 'my' clothes.

Jane (5) and Ada (2) in new shorts. Ada's are more like culottes. Jane was the clothes-with-legs-refusenik until she started school, where she has no choice but to wear the school uniform trousers. So shorts are now acceptable as long as they are floral or (like her sister's) female superheroes.

And Ada and Jane again, in the park: same culottes for Ada, and an A-line dress for Jane.

Fleur and Rose again, a year older, and wearing new playsuits. (Though Rose still likes to wear last year's, too, even though it's a bit tight.) And still no dresses yet, you notice.

Talk about posing for the camera! Ada in another pair of culottes, and Jane in a different A-line dress with a deep frill. (What you can't quite see is that she is also in hiking boots, as she's chosen to wear a dress for their fell-walking outing.)

Now both Jane and Ada in dresses, balancing on a log.

Cool kids! Rose (left) is wearing another of her favourite Grandma shorts, with a jungle print, Fleur is just playing it cool in clothes from another source (a shop, I think) And cousin Jane is wearing a layered dress I made for her last year, when it was a bit long for her taste. Now it fits perfectly.

Are we ever going to see Rose and Fleur in a dress? Well, yes, just about. Fleur, the dress refusenik, is now almost 6, and she had the absolute opposite experience from her cousin Jane. Her school uniform is a dress, and she's more reconciled to the whole idea now. So for their holidays this year, she chose a bright yellow beach patterned jersey, while Rose asked to have a pinafore dress in a grey, pink and green floral design. They'll be going to a four-day wedding soon, and Mum has told them - you are not wearing your shorts and trainers!

I love it when the girls are so happy with what I've made - and in turn that makes for a very happy Grandma!
